MCIT is mandated under Emiri Decree no. 57 for the year 2021 to supervise, regulate and develop Qatar's ICT sector in line with the national development goals — and is the sponsor of the TASMU Smart Qatar programme.
Supervising the ICT sector, securing national infrastructure, implementing e-government and smart-society programmes, and raising community awareness of digital services.
MCIT sponsors the TASMU Programme Office, which owns strategy, architecture, governance and the platform roadmap on behalf of the State of Qatar. The TASMU Platform was launched in July 2021 by the Minister to solidify the Smart Qatar vision, and later recognised as a top-3 finalist for "Enabling Technologies" at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2021 in Barcelona.
